Svendsen-Cook heads Masters practice

Rupert Svendsen-Cook set the pace in the opening practice session for the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort. In mixed weather conditions, the British Carlin driver posted a late flier in 1m46.704s to beat Motopark man Kimya Sato by 0.588s. Sato edged out Mucke driver Nigel Melker and Signature's Marco Wittmann; all three of them having won when the F3 Euro Series visited the Dutch venue earlier this year.

Keselowski skips Nationwide race

Brad Keselowski will skip Saturday's Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen as he continues to recover from his testing accident from last week. The Penske driver was set to be on double-duty next weekend, but following his second Sprint Cup win of the season, which places him as the favorite to land one of the wildcard entries into this year's Chase, he is set to place his focus on his Cup programme in order to remain eligible for the playoff. Keselowski basically needs to be among the top 20 in points in five-week's time in order to become a championship contender for the first time, and this weekend's race at Watkins Glen is set to place his injured ankle under massive stress, being regarded as the toughest venue for brakes.

Dixon storms to Mid-Ohio win

Scott Dixon took his first win of 2011 with a commanding performance at Mid-Ohio, while his Ganassi team-mate Dario Franchitti extended his championship lead over Will Power by finishing second. Starting from pole, Dixon assumed control of the race from the outset, with his pace suggesting only bad luck with safety cars could upset his hopes of victory
