Rockenfeller: No crash after-effects

Mike Rockenfeller insists that his back row grid position for the DTM race at the Norisring has nothing to do with the after-effects of his horrific accident at Le Mans. The Audi driver is returning to the DTM this weekend after he was forced to sit out the last race at Lausitz while he recovered from his accident on board the Audi R18 last month.

Pirelli not giving up on Block test

Pirelli is to keep pushing on with its plans to give Ken Block a run in a Formula 1 car later this year, despite the American proving too big to fit in the company's Toyota test car. Block, who is as famous for his World Rally Championship exploits as he is for his Gymkhana videos, had been scheduled to test Pirelli's updated 2009 Toyota at Monza in August. However, as AUTOSPORT revealed last week, those plans have hit an early snag after it was found Block's legs were too long for the Toyota cockpit - and meant he could not turn the steering wheel

Martin takes 50th pole at Daytona

NASCAR veteran Mark Martin edged Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne in qualifying for Saturday's Coke Zero 400, claiming the 50th pole position of his career. The 52-year-old, never a winner at Daytona, beat the benchmark set earlier in the session by the Wood Brothers rookie by 17 thousandths of a second, with a lap of 49.433 seconds at an average speed of 182.086 mph. Martin's pole was the tip of the iceberg for Hendrick Motorsports as all the team's cars qualified in the top 10 and will be lining up one behind another on the outside as Martin's pole allows him to choose which lane he wants for the start of the race.

Britain preview quotes: Pirelli

Paul Hembery: "Silverstone always produces some exciting races and there's a fantastic atmosphere to the whole event, which is why they call it the 'home of British motorsport'. Our tyre nomination for this race will give the teams the durability they need to cope with the demands of the circuit, thanks to the hard tyre, and also the speed with which they can demonstrate their pure performance, with the soft tyre
