Fourth Time a Charm

For Seattle?s Jason Stock, winning the iRacing.com NVIDIA Cup Season 2b title was a case of fourth time?s a charm.  Since joining the service in January, he?d finished in the top ten in each of the pint-sized season standings (seventh in 2011 Season 1b, fourth in Season 1c, second in Season 2) so although he was certainly trending in the right direction, he decided to take a slightly different tack. ?After finishing second place last season to Zsolt Hamvas I knew that to win an NVIDIA Cup Championship, it would require more than a series of nearly flawless victories,? says Stock.  ?My initial solution was to call in sick for work on the last day of competition for the week so that I could get in the highest SoF race [...]

Swedespeed tests Volvo S60 AWD with 325-hp Polestar reflash beta

Volvo S60

Volvo is giving S60 buyers - courtesy of Polestar - a chance to juice up their S60s without going all the way to the R-Design model. Polestar is the tuner responsible for Volvo's STCC program and the firm has engineered an ECU reflash that boosts the S60's power numbers from 300 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque to 325 hp and 354 lb-ft.

Swedespeed was given a chance to test a pre-production version of the software and had it installed on their project S60 T6 AWD. The unofficial results were a 0.3-second drop in the 0-60 mile-per-hour time, getting the S60 within sight of the lighter, rear-wheel-drive BMW 335i and the heavier, all-wheel-drive Audi S4. Mid-range torque, though, appeared to be the big winner, with Swedespeed noting improved passing chops.

When it's officially offered, the upgrade is expected to cost around $1,500 or so, and be a quick install at the dealer. Fuel economy numbers aren't on the table yet, but Swedespeed will have more details of their time with the car soon. Follow the link for the full story.

Sato pips Franchitti in practice two

Takuma Sato flew to the top of the times with his final lap of the second IndyCar Series practice session at Edmonton. In a repeat of the finish of practice one, reigning champion Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) had looked set to come away with the fastest time, only to be pipped after the chequered flag by a surprise contender. That man had been Newman/Haas' James Hinchcliffe in the first session, but in practice two it was KV driver Sato who threw in a 1m18.9772s to beat Franchitti by 0.0085 seconds.

Ken Block?s F1 test postponed

Ken Block's planned Formula 1 test has had to be postponed, AUTOSPORT can reveal, because Pirelli cannot find a car big enough for him. The WRC driver, who is famous for his Gymkhana videos, had hoped to run at Pirelli's August test at Monza in its updated 2009 Toyota test car. However, during a seat fitting at Toyota's Cologne headquarters, it was found that Block's legs were too long for him to be able to fit in the car.

Meet the Obscure Unelected Agencies Strangling Many U.S. Cities

Transit investment lagged in regions where MPO boards did not give equal representation to city populations, Detroit being an especially bad example. In more democratic metros, investment was much more balanced. Image: Nelson, 2003 Do you know the name of your local Metropolitan Planning Organization or Council of Government? Most Americans don’t. In fact, most people [...]
